| 11:10 - 11:50 | Digital Governance - Achieving Agility Without Risking Damnation The old publishers’ and editors’ battle cry used to be ‘print and be damned’. But, in truth, massive steps were taken to ensure content was factually accurate, legally robust and that the processes that ensured delivery - from print to paper boy – did not break down. Now the expansion from traditional media to online publication must establish governance protocols for digital content that are just as robust and embedded as those that have evolved for print. But while print systems and processes had centuries to evolve, digital governance needs to mature at speed, as technology evolves ever more rapidly. Anne Caborn takes a look at the flip side of the agile coin, including some of the key legal issues and their potential impact on both revenues and brand. | Anne Caborn, Digital Consultant |
| 12:20 - 13:00 | It's All in the Game At its core gamification is all about understanding the psychology that drives participation in games. Once you know that, you can start tailoring it to your brand. Discover how gamification can benefit your business, understand why games are so engaging and find out how you can apply it. | James Allsopp, Design Director, PlayGen |
| 14:00 - 14:40 | Updating your Content Strategy for a Community-driven World With market demands and user expectations advancing at an ever increasing pace, the modern publisher needs to learn to listen. Content assets are no just longer things you commission and publish. Community-generated assets need curation and management in a new way. Have you updated your process for this new world? | Noz Urbina, Senior Consultant and Business Development Manager, Mekon |
| 15:10 - 15:50 | Leveraging the full value of your content with XML Publishing practices have changed signifigantly over the past few years. Publishing Expo in association with Mekon and sponsored by Bubo Bookshelf, present the Content Agility Theatre. This forum brings a new dimension to Publishing Expo to educate and inform visitors on the future of publishing.
Presentations in the Content Agility Theatre will focus on making information agile, portable and reusable. This concept is becoming ever more critical with the fast introduction of new delivery formats such as eBooks, ePub 3.0, Smart phones and Web 2.0
Visitors to the Content Agility Theatre will learn how content can be re purposed for different platforms and with the right infrastructure and foundation can drive new and dynamic products to make the most of your valuable content.
Traditional publishers have long since been focused on the final product ending up on paper. More recently the demand for eBooks and eZines are forcing publishers to publish to multiple channels which to-date involves PDF conversion and rudimentary page turners. XML is a content storage standard that can make it possible to repurpose your publications in many more ways than was ever feasible in the past.
What new concepts, best practice and technologies are influencing publishers today and how can we learn from this to help our future content strategy?
The preliminary agenda for the two days will be available soon with the opportunity to submit papers still being available - contact jon.howell@ubm.com
